On the afternoon of June 15th, 2018, the Silk Road Delegation of Trinity College, US, visited the School of Public Policy and Administration, Xi’an Jiaotong University. The delegation was welcomed by Professor Zhou Zhongliang, the Deputy Dean of the School of Public Policy and Administration, and Associate Professor Meng Fanrong from the Department of Administration. The delegation, consisting of 5 professors and 11 college students, looks forward to knowing China’s development via visiting cities of Beijing, Xi’an, Dunhuang, Yining, Horgos and Kashgar, and to seeing China’s extraordinary changes and achievements from the perspectives of cities history, economic development, urban planning, urban governance, “Belt and Road”, water resource utilization and management and environmental protection, etc.
Professor Zhou Zhongliang expressed his welcome to the delegation on behalf of the school and gave a brief introduction of the history and achievements of the university and school in recent years. He also expressed his expectations on establishing more bilateral cooperation with Trinity College in the future. Associate Professor Meng Fanrong gave a keynote lecture on the subject of “Xi’an and Silk Road: Past, Present and Future”, in which she introduced the role of Xi’an in the ancient Silk Road and in the present “Belt and Road Initiatives”. Meanwhile, she talked about the development status and urban governing of Xi’an, as well as problems and corresponding solutions in the course. Professor Meng’s lecture offered the delegation an in-depth understanding of Xi’an after their visiting to some historic sites and the China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
In the end, Professor Xiangming Chen, leader of the delegation and the Director of the Metropolis and Global Research Center, sincerely expressed his gratitude to the school on behalf of the delegation. He said that both Xi’an and Xi’an Jiaotong University own great developing potentials, and expressed his expectations on establishing further cooperation in the field of urban governance between both universities.
Trinity College of the US is one of the oldest universities across America. It was established in the year of 1823 and is the second college in the State of Connecticut. Also, it is a higher institute of arts and science education certified by the NEASC for its freedom from the limitations of religious factions or subjects. There are 38 majors in the Trinity College, among which Politics, Economy, History, English and Psychology own their reputation in the world.
This exchange has further expanded the international cooperation of the School and played a positive role in the promotion of Xi’an.
