讲座简介：Based on Professor Liang’s research of more than two decades in Manhattan’s Chinatown, this presentation explores the recent history of Chinese immigration within the United States and the fundamental changes in spatial settlement that have relocated many low-skilled Chinese immigrants from New York City's Chinatown to new immigrant destinations. The first part of the presentation will address how Manhattan’s Chinatown can be used to address some of the most important sociological topics such as spatial assimilation, immigrant labor market, entrepreneurship, new immigrant destinations, race relations, and social and cultural impact of Chinatown and Chinese culture. Then using a mixed-method approach in Chinatown and six destination states in the United States, Prof. Liang will illustrate that the Chinatown case can provide significant insights into key issues for the field of sociology and beyond.

讲座嘉宾简介：梁在，纽约州立大学奥尔巴尼分校杰出教授，社会学系主任，现任美国社会学学会国际移民分会主席，曾为纽约拉塞尔·塞奇基金会（Russell Sage Foundation）访问学者。他是美国社会学研究协会当选会士，并于2020年荣获美国社会学学会颁发的路易斯·沃斯（Louis Wirth）最佳论文奖。梁教授的研究曾先后得到美国国家科学基金会、国立卫生研究院、福特基金会、斯宾塞基金会等多家机构资助。2004至2022年间，他曾担任奥尔巴尼"中国城市研究网络"的主任、联合主任。其主要研究领域涵盖人口迁移/移民、城市化、城市社会学及中国研究。
